More about this course...
As Jewish educators, we all want to help our learners find meaning in their Jewish learning. However, it seems that very often, that meaning is shallow and based on snippets of information or text taken out of context. The shift from meaning-making to meaning-mining stems from the desire to convey our deeply-held belief that the texts of our tradition inherently contain a tremendous amount of meaning for all contemporary readers, including our learners. Therefore, we do not need to ‘make’ or conjure meaning from thin air when we learn or teach Torah, but rather we need to do the work of drawing out or mining the meaning that is already there, in the text. In this course, educators from all backgrounds will learn how to dig deep into text in order to mine out its inherent meaning, and will investigate several different categories of meaning, and choose to focus on those that fit the needs and interests of their specific learners.
